Trekking Packing List

Gear up for Tanzania's peaks — from the rainforest floor to Uhuru's icy summit.

Before You Ascend

Essential Gear
for the Trek

Trekking Tanzania's mountains demands preparation. From the lush rainforest base to the arctic summit zone, you'll move through five distinct climates in a matter of days. This guide ensures you're equipped for every one of them.

01

Clothing

Layering for the Mountain

Layering is everything at altitude. Choose lightweight, moisture-wicking fabrics that adjust to the five distinct climate zones you'll pass through on your ascent.

01

Base Layers

Moisture-wicking base layers keep you dry and comfortable. Pack both short-sleeve and long-sleeve options.

02

Mid Layers

Fleece jackets or insulated jackets provide warmth during cooler parts of the trek. A lightweight down or synthetic jacket is also a good option.

03

Outer Layers

A waterproof and windproof jacket and pants are essential. Look for breathable fabrics to stay comfortable under exertion.

04

Trekking Pants

Quick-dry, convertible trekking pants that can be turned into shorts are versatile and practical for varying temperatures.

05

Hiking Shorts

For warmer lower elevations, pack a pair of lightweight hiking shorts.

06

Hiking Boots

Sturdy, waterproof boots with good ankle support are crucial. Break them in well before your trek to avoid blisters.

07

Socks

Pack several pairs of moisture-wicking, cushioned hiking socks. Wool or synthetic blends work well.

08

Gaiters

Gaiters keep debris and water out of your boots, especially in muddy or snowy alpine conditions.

09

Hat and Gloves

A wide-brimmed hat for sun protection, a warm hat for cold weather, and gloves for the upper elevations.

10

Scarf or Buff

A lightweight scarf or buff protects your neck from sun, wind, and dust across all zones.
