The leopard is a solitary and nocturnal predator, often seen draped over tree branches during the day. Its spotted coat provides excellent camouflage, making it a stealthy hunter. Leopards are highly adaptable, found in a wide range of habitats from dense forests to open savannas.

They are powerful climbers, often dragging their kills into trees to keep them safe from scavengers. Leopards have a varied diet, preying on animals as diverse as antelopes, birds, and small mammals.

Where to find leopards

To see leopards in Tanzania, visit areas like the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Ruaha National Park. The dry season from June to October offers the best opportunities for sightings as vegetation is sparse and animals are easier to spot.

Guided safaris with experienced trackers enhance your chances of seeing leopards, as these cats are masters of stealth. Night drives can also be productive since leopards are more active after dark.
